Welcome

Thanks for stopping by the NEW drewwohlberg.com. Anyway, enough with the pleasantries, let’s get down to business. The visual landscape today is littered with so many misguided attempts at graphic design. As the access to technology grows, the number of those who would call themselves “designer” grows also. Even if the design is done well, it is important that the concept is not lacking . There must be a thoughtful reasoned approach to the decision making process. We designers are in the visual communication business, plain and simple. We are not artists! We need to focus more than just on the visual. The idea at the core of the design must shine through to truly motivate people to action. A design without a solid concept anchoring it is nothing more than eye candy.

So with that being said, let’s get on with it, shall we.

UIC Brochure
Brochure
University of Illinois Medical Center

These pieces were designed to inform about the transplant program at the University of Illinois Medical Center. The main brochure deals with general information and then we did three inserts that deal with specific organs. The design needed to be clean and easy to read as most of the patients either have a low level of education or English is not their first language.

LiftMaster “Score Big” Promotion

This direct mail promotion was timed right during the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl so we decided to play on football hysteria to sell some garage door openers. The football texture on the headline was supposed to be done with embossing but alas, the budget didn’t allow.

HeathCo

Heath Zenith is a security lighting company that was acquired by The Chamberlain Group and wanted to rebrand as HeathCo. I was directed to work in the idea of light/lighting which was fairly tough to keep from being cheesy. I used blue as the main color because of its associations with expertise and stability.

LiftMaster Fingerprint Keypad

This ad for the LiftMaster fingerprint keypad was the D.A.S.M.A. (Door and Access Systems Manufacturers Association) Advertisement of the Year for 2007. I wanted to really focus on the idea that your fingerprint is your key and give it a technical, almost futuristic look. Red would not have been my first color choice to do this but hey, it’s the brand color.
